Practicing with a metronome is essential for practicing. Contextual interference can help improve your skills through challenges and improve your understanding of rhythm. Desirable difficulty is an important curve when it comes to practicing. Eventually it will become a memory exercise which will help with stage fright, etc. but most importantly will provide fluency with the piece you are trying to master. Looking into the full scope of the song you are trying to master then practicing the most difficult parts are essential to progressing. Otherwise you may fall into the “Dreaded Plateau” state where things become too easy for you and little progress occurs. |
